115sqm first floor+ 40sqm second floor with 70 sqmt rooftop terrace. The owners are a couple with 2 small boys, The initial brief was a complete renovation of the first floor and expanding the built area on the roof from a single room to 40sqm which will include the living area of the house – kitchen, living room and family dining table, the purpose was to have this space adjacent to the roof terrace, and have a big dining area outside under the pergola.
the first floor has a “public” area at the entrance to the home which includes an entrance storage space, a big TV area, a study and the staircase, a corridor leads to the private area of rooms and baths.
The second thing in the brief was no use of grey or black in colors or materials for permanent elements, so it was decided that the house will be all in white and color, which will enhance the airy light feeling that the clients wanted to achieve. The top floor was built with an iron frame, all the iron beams were left exposed and colored white, as well as all the other metal work, the stairs, the iron glass partition and door to the study and the lighting fixtures.
the stairs were half demolished, the first half of it stayed heavy built concrete painted white with oak wood steps, and use of the space underneath for storage, with carpentry white doors, the second half was demolished and replaced with light iron beams and wood steps that float, a big window to the outside was placed above the staircase, to bring lots of light to first floor, to have a space connection between the two stories, and to have a great view unfold when u go up the stairs.
the same idea appears again on the second floor where the placement of a planter from the exterior enters the living room space between the guest bathroom to the couch to create a divide and again to bring the green outside in.
