Noho, Manhattan, New York
Photographs: Rosemary Trenholm & Union Studio
UNION STUDIO designed the loft space in New York’s NOHO neighborhood for longtime creative clients who work in branding and design. On the 3rd floor of a 1903 industrial building, the long loft space has windows on 3 sides looking out over the vibrant
neighborhood surrounding Washington Square Park.
The center of the space comprises the open living room, dining area, and kitchen and fronts Great Jones Street below. At one end of the loft is the master suite and office. The master bath has a double shower clad in Calacatta Marble, a custom blackened stainless steel screen, vintage industrial glass, and a Teak soaking tub. Custom steel and glass partitions define spaces throughout the loft and harmonize with the rich industrial history of the building.
At the other end of the loft are the secondary bedrooms and the large studio. The studio serves as a creative hub for the space and the use of a single dark paint color helps to unify the existing millwork and create a dramatic backdrop for design and artwork.
In the open Kitchen, UNION STUDIO designed the island with open shelving, seating, and enclosed cabinetry from steel and White Oak as well as the custom hood and pot racks.
The large shelving unit in the adjacent dining area borrows design details from the island and creates a dramatic backdrop for the 12’ marble dining table. Millwork, trim and accents are muted in their off-black palette as are the floors which are oxidized Rift White Oak finished with a natural matte black oil finish.
