The original property is a Victorian terraced house from the 1840’s in need of modernisation, repair and extension. The brief was to extend to the side and rear of the original outrigger.
The Architects approach at Albion Terrace was to create a dynamic form of architecture, that o ered a beautiful internal ceiling scape and composition of the natural day light.
The design is made up of 4 equal mini-pitched roofs, with narrow slot west- facing roo ights that pick up the movement of the late afternoon, but do not allow excessive heat gain. The roofs and rear elevation are clad in a pre- weathered standing seam zinc, combined with the warmth of a bespoke solid Douglas Fir door and window. The project aims to blend new and old in a simple yet striking design.
Albion Terrace design also looked at creating an extension that is future proofed for hotter summers with a heat source pump system, that pumps chilled water within integrated pipe work in the ceilings, grey water har- vesting and eco-friendly sheep wool insulation.
